BUSHCRAFT/SURVIVAL
Begin the journey to being comfortable in a survival situation.
You will be shown the basics of edible and medicinal wild foods, safe water gathering and filtering, warm dry shelter building, fire making with modern and ancient techniques. This is the survival kit you keep in your head, not your backpack.
This weekend will give you an understanding of what is involved in keeping yourself alive when all you have are your clothes, a knife , maybe a match, or maybe just two sticks to rub together.
This is a hands-on weekend but not a full survival situation. The class is run up the Otaki Gorge. We provide breakfast lunch and dinner, you bring along a tarp or tent and a sleeping bag. There are toilets but no shower facilities.
"Steve and Jen and Turtle made us part of their family for the weekend. Steve is a patient and knowledgable instructor who teaches by having you try things for yourself. After the training I feel capable of handling many more survival situations. But the weekend was more than survival training - it was simple eating, simple living and letting the day unroll.
After a weekend there my daily life feels foreign. You don't want to miss this.
This is not a 'man vs nature' experience, it's a 'man is one with nature' experience."
Eric (and Emily), U.S.A

This is a challenging 2 day camp for 13- 17yr old guys and girls that love what Bear Grylls does or want to upskill thier abilities in the wild places. Come and learn the foundation skills to help you survive in the wild as well as be taken safely to the edge of your comfort zone.
Don't worry, we won't be drinking urine and there are vegetarian options on the food we get to eat.
This autumn we venture into TRACKING, CAMO and PRIMITIVE HUNTING, slowing down to natures speed. These skills can be used for hunting or photgraphy or just the shear enjoyment of getting really close to animals.
We will sleep in simple shelters and be introduced to the art of foraging for wild edible and medicinal plants and cook all our meals on the open fire.
The 'tracking, camo and primitive hunting' will be at the end of summer so if you were one who missed out there is still a chance to come and learn these skills.

We take a weekend out to lose our minds and come to our senses.
Step out of tunnel vision by expanding your senses, learn what the birds calls are telling us, learn to read animal tracks, go barefoot, be blindfolded, slow down to the speed of nature, and become lost proof.
We sleep under tarps or in tents, steep ourselves in nature all day, and share stories around the fire at night
You will learn to see, hear, feel, smell, and taste the world in a long forgotten way.
Even if you go into nature often or have been tramping for years we are positive that this class will show you a whole new way of being in your surroundings. Infact it will give you a whole new way of being in your everyday life of work and family too!
We provide all meals from dinner on Friday through to lunch on Sunday, you bring along a tarp or tent and a sleeping bag.
